Alosra Supermarket - Saar, Amwaj Islands and Durrat Al Bahrain
BMMI owns and operates Alosra Supermarket, the anchor store of the Najibi Centre community mall, located in the upmarket Saar / Budaiya family neighbourhood of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It also operates Alosra convenience stores on the Islands of Amwaj and Durrat Al Bahrain, with plans in place to open more Alosra outlets across Bahrain in the near future. Alosra has successfully carved out a leading market share of the Kingdom’s high-end grocery sector, with a loyal and discerning customer base comprising mainly Western expatriates and affluent Bahraini nationals.
Known as the ‘fresh and friendly’ supermarket, Alosra enjoys a reputation for delivering fast and friendly service, and for the unrivalled freshness and quality of its produce. This applies particularly to the fruit and vegetables section, meat and fish counters, delicatessen, dairy section, and bakery. Alosra is also famous for its deli range of cooked foods such as pies, pastries, rotisserie chicken, and ready-to-eat meals. In addition to food and groceries, Alosra provides electrical items, white goods, kitchen accessories, and gardening and outdoor equipment, together with books and newspapers, DVDs, CDs and videos.
In response to customer needs and tastes, Alosra specialises in sourcing and supplying particular Western brands and specialty products. These include British chilled chicken, eggs, bread and dairy products, and fresh mussels from Scotland. The supermarket is also the only one in Bahrain to regularly stock organic fruit and vegetables on a regular basis.
The Supermarket receives two shipments by air every week from the UK and Holland for fresh items such as bread, meat and poultry, eggs, fruit and dairy products. Long-life chilled items arrive every month from the USA, and frozen and dry (canned) products every two months from the UK and USA. Short shelf life items, such as biscuits and chocolates, are shipped in from abroad every other week.
Alosra is the first supermarket in Bahrain to offer customers the choice of re-usable cloth bags as part of its efforts to reduce the use of plastic bags, which have a harmful effect on the local environment. The supermarket has also partnered with Bahrain-based organization Recycling for Charity to become the first of many locations for its local recycling bank.
