Achieving Zero-Discrimination
On the 1st of March, the world marked ‘Zero Discrimination Day’ with hopes to re-enforce a powerful message promoting mutual respect, gender equality, empathy, compassion and peace - the building blocks for a diverse society. As the human race increasingly becomes complex, millions of people don’t necessarily fit into that typical mainstream image of what an individual should represent. Just because some individuals are labelled as ‘different’ for not fitting into the norm, they may be subjected to hatred and exclusion.
No matter how progressive we think we are as a human race, prejudice and phobias have escalated this past decade. Many don’t realise that they can be unconsciously fuelling issues relating to stigma and discrimination.
It is up to each and everyone one of us to promote equality and solidarity by respecting dignities especially within our own organisational structure in order to achieve zero-levels of discrimination. BMMI considers its diversity and inclusion efforts the building blocks for ensuring zero-discrimination and a positive environment for its employees as one of its core strategic aims. We should all personally strive to create a healthier and more inclusive working environment that is motivating and respectful at all times.
Any form of harassment, unwarranted behaviour that violates employee’s, creating a hostile and discriminatory environment in the office will not be tolerated. Unwelcome behaviour which is offensive, humiliating, abusive, including derogatory remarks against another individual’s ethnicity, orientation, ability/disability, harassment related to age, and bullying using unwarranted or invalid criticism will always be subject to disciplinary action.
It is important open up when discrimination or bulling arises and we encourage everyone to feel empowered to open up so we can prevent such things from occurring in the first place. We always pride ourselves on our corporate culture and part of this is ensuring that our workplaces are prime examples of those with the upmost respect for all.
