World Water Day
According to the World Economic Forum (2015), water crises are evidently the most impactful risk facing the world today. A staggering 663 million people (1 in every 10) lack access to safe water (WHO, 2015).
Water stewardship is increasingly material for corporations and it is essential to take the right steps towards solving the world’s water crises. Working together towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals to simultaneously support human rights and seize opportunities to mitigate risks is the way forward.
To do our part when it comes to water stewardship, we have completed a comprehensive water efficiency screening earlier this year for all our Bahrain based premises. We have managed to identify and gather data relating to all the premises including the findings and results. Our team is now working on implementing the required corrective measures to mitigate and control the current water consumption across our different locations.
All of us share the responsibility in using water wisely not only at work but home as well. Follow the below simple tips to help conserve water:
- Monitor how much water you use (compare your monthly water bills and differences in consumption).
- Fix leaks and don’t leave taps running (especially when brushing your teeth) – it can really make a huge difference!
- Use water efficient appliances and saving devices to reduce water flow and usage.
- Reuse water where possible and safe to do so (e.g. water used to rinse fruits and vegetables could be re-used to water plants).
- Be more aware of the environmental impacts of when using water.
Water has no boundaries and it connects us all in one way or another. With around one billion people still lacking, basic access to safe drinking water, it’s about time to unite in solving this global problem.
