Alosra supermarket celebrates Food Revolution Day
BMMI’s fresh and friendly supermarket, Alosra, recently embarked on a month-long celebration of Food Revolution Day.
A movement started by renowned British chef, Jamie Oliver, Food Revolution Day focuses on food education, inspiring people to cook great food from scratch and to be empowered to help change the world’s obesity crisis.
To mark the occasion and in order to encourage people to eat healthy, Alosra is running month-long, in-store promotions on fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as their To Go range. Additionally, for the second year in a row, Alosra was part of St Christopher’s Junior School’s Food Revolution Day on May 15. The Alosra team displayed cut, fresh fruits and vegetables, encouraging children from the ages of three to 12 to taste the different colours and flavours nature has to offer!
The display also allowed the young students to see the variety of fresh produce available and perhaps taste some things they hadn’t tried before. The students, parents and guests were also delighted by the diversity of in-house fresh hummus presented by the Alosra team, which was paired with different vegetables for dipping – the sun-dried tomato hummus was definitely the winner of the day!
Students in years two and three also had the opportunity to take home a little Alosra care package, which included a flyer suggesting healthy lunch ideas throughout the week and an Alosra branded lunchbox!
This year, BMMI and Alosra took their commitment to the cause a step further, when our Food Development and Production Specialist, Sara Babar, was made a Food Revolution Ambassador by the Jamie Oliver team and with Alosra pledging to continue spreading awareness of healthy eating throughout the year!
