BMMI partners with the BSCBCD
The Bahrain Society for Children with Behavioral and Communication Difficulties (BSCBCD) is launching an Employment Facilitation Training Service (EFTS) program which will be the first of its kind in the region. In collaboration with Tamkeen and Project SEARCH, an international consultant with a trademarked and copyrighted program model, individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be effectively trained in the workplace.
BMMI has been supporting Alia for Early Intervention since its inception in 2004. As a result of the longstanding and strong working relationship, BMMI has been the first to be approached to back this national program. “BMMI is honoured to be the first business host to such an imperative national initiative”, said Assistant Vice President, Corporate Communications & CSR, Yasmin Elisabeth Hussain. “BMMI encourages a culture of inclusivity and this is the perfect opportunity to further cement our commitments. Providing high potential candidates with training opportunities across BMMI, further enhances our position as an employer of choice, a responsible corporate citizen, as is in line with our Group sustainability strategy, ‘Nourishing Life’,” added Yasmin.
Since Project SEARCH is a business-led program, students will learn relevant, marketable skills while immersed in the business. The program will focus on serving individuals with developmental disabilities who are or were enrolled with Alia for Early Intervention, or registered with disabilities services; given that they have demonstrated an interest in entering into the workforce as a final outcome. The team has already identified relevant positions, including administer/clerical type jobs as well as picker’s and produce Customer Service Assistant in Alosra.
The program will assist up to 20 individuals per year, with the goal of community employment as a final outcome. The initial project is aimed to commence this month and successful outcome will be based on competitive and year round employment in an integrated setting for each Project SEARCH intern. BMMI is fully committed to supporting the goal of competitive integrated employment for individuals with developmental disabilities, and will continue to offer similar employment opportunities.
