GSS Ghana awarded lucrative Newmont Contract in the face of stiff competition

The contract award value is in the region of $50 million for a 3 year initial term. It is a Multi Activity contract that will require the provision of Integrated Facilities Management of three key locations in Ghana including Facilities Routine, Preventative and Call Out Maintenance, Catering, Housekeeping, Retail, Guest house Management, and other associated remote site services catering for approx 3,800 personnel.

GSS was awarded the contract against international competition due to the Company’s growing reputation for consistently delivering its brand promise of ‘Delivering Quality of life where it’s needed most”. This not only transpires in quality of life of the client, but GSS is innovative in its impact on the local communities it operates in. Part of the Newmont promise will see GSS working in partnership with an NGO to train & support 600 local community farmers to develop their growing skills and productivity in able to support Food Supply to the contract as well as bolster the local markets. Additionally, 99.2% of the 903 personnel required for this project will be from the local community; this will have added financial impacts on these communities and the extended families as part of our sustainability plan.

GSS will be supporting the biggest gold producer in the world employing 34,000 people in 8 countries with 93 million ounces of probable gold reserves. Ghana accounts for close to a quarter of Newmont earnings.

The contract is very strategic for the Group as we expand our market share in the key extraction economies in Africa and as we strive to perform high value, longer term contracts that will facilitate moving from a supplier relationship to strategic relationship with blue chip clients.
